Airlines and the Pat Down Rule
Hickey and Walters (Bespoke) submit: Given the ongoing controversy regarding the TSA's new pat-down rules, we wondered what impact, if any, that the policy is having on the airline stocks. A lot of people have argued that the invasive procedures will lead to more people getting in their cars and driving rather than deal with the hassle of flying. While it's still too early to get any meaningful data on passenger traffic, we would note that the relative strength of the airline stocks peaked around the time that the 'printer cartridge' bombs were discovered and the TSA instituted its new pat-down policy. While the connection could be nothing more than a coincidence, it's something to keep an eye on. Shares of Priceline (PCLN) have also pulled in since reporting strong earnings two weeks ago on November 9th.click to enlargeComplete Story » seekingalpha.com |
