Asset Managers Still Aggressively Chasing Risk
Tyler Durden submits: The charts below (click to enlarge) demonstrate unmistakably just how phenomenally bipolar the market has become, and just how aggressively asset managers are chasing after risky assets in order to make up for 2008 losses. Alas, nobody has learned any lessons from the credit bubble where fast, slow, dumb and smart money was all chasing the riskiest assets, all of which ended in tears for far too many people. The result so far for 2009: exactly the same pattern is repeating itself. The highest activity, both in number of transactions and in notional, is in the riskiest space: equities. This makes intuitive sense: as Obama himself said on March 7th "the market has bottomed", with everyone rushed to jump into risk, and the subsequent explosion in new equity issuance is the result.Complete Story »

Shipping ETF: Are Stormy Seas Calmer?
Tom Lydon (ETF Trends) submits: When countries around the globe start resuming business as usual, shipping will be a given necessity and exchange traded funds (ETFs) are one way to gain access to this sector and satiate your investment needs. The ETF’s portfolio has dry bulk goods and the leasing and/or operating of tanker ships, container ships, specialty chemical ships and liquefied gas or dry bulk goods transport ships.Complete Story »

A Look Inside the Cockpits of Defense Contractor CDS
Jim Delaney submits: Anyone unfortunate enough to have watched any of the Congressional hearings on any of the myriad of topics that that august body deemed necessary enough to haul someone in front of them for showed the Nation if not specifically their constituents that our hard earned tax dollars really are(n’t) at work but gave us all a very good idea of one of the definitions of the word “drone”. Another definition, referenced increasingly more often these days, is that of an unmanned aerial vehicle or with deference to those who speak in letters, UAV. Had Congress not run into such steadfast opposition to their order for a handful of new G-5’s we might actually have had the opportunity to see both definitions combined.Complete Story »

Airline Monthly Numbers Show Strong Likelihood of Profitability in 2010
Robert Herbst submits:RPM’s, ASM’s, LF’s: What do those terms mean and what are they telling us about the airline industry? In the first week of every month, airlines publish selected operational data for the prior month. This data is always shown as a comparison to the same month a year earlier.Complete Story »
