Trouble Brewing for the Baltic Dry Index
The Business Insider submits: The dry bulk shipping vessel orderbook is so massive over the next two years that even huge cancellation estimates would have trouble making it manageable, and thus saving the Baltic Dry Index (a measure of spot rates for bulk shipping). FTAlphaville highlights that broker Icap expects 1,400 vessels to be delivered in 2010, which equates to 120 vessels per month on average. China: Astounding Growth in Auto Sales, Introduction of Futures Trading

Beijing hosts its annual Auto Show this weekend, and many of the global industry’s top executives (including Carlos Ghosn) are here to assess the trends and potential in what became, this past year, the world’s largest auto consumer market. Earnings Preview: United Parcel Service
theflyonthewall.com submits: United Parcel Service (UPS) is expected to report Q3 earnings before the market open on Thursday, October 21 with a conference call scheduled for 8:30 am ET. GuidanceAnalysts are looking for EPS of 88c and revenue of $12.38B. The consensus range is 80c-92c for EPS, and $12.00B-$12.86B for revenue, according to First Call. UPS reported positive Q2 results, beating both EPS and revenue estimates. It also raised its FY10 EPS guidance to $3.35-$3.45 from the prior view of $3.05-$3.30 vs. consensus $3.44. The shares have risen approximately 15% since Q2 results were released. Sentiment on the street has been mostly positive.
