Lockheed Reports Strong Quarter, Raises Outlook
Zacks.com submits: Before markets opened Thursday, Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) reported strong fourth quarter fiscal 2009 results and raised its fiscal outlook. In the reported quarter with EPS of $2.17, the company beat both the Zacks Consensus Estimate and the year-ago EPS of $1.98 and $2.05, respectively. However, Lockheed Martin’s net earnings increased only $4 million to $827 million in the reported quarter compared to $823 million in the year-ago quarter. The upside in EPS was fueled to a large extent by lower outstanding shares, which decreased to 381.9 million from 400.7 million in the year-ago quarter.Complete Story » seekingalpha.com |
BYD Offers Dual Mode Hybrid Cars to the Chinese Masses
Ravi Nagarajan submits:BYD has announced the availability of its F3DM dual-mode electric vehicle to individual buyers in China starting on March 29. The first sales location will be in Shenzhen. The city plans to have 24,000 dual mode hybrids on the road by 2012 increasing to 100,000 vehicles by 2015. BYD introduced the dual mode hybrid at the end of 2008 but up to this point has only offered the vehicle to government entities, banks, and other institutions. The F3DM is based on the BYD F3 compact car platform which is one of the top selling vehicles in China. The vehicle is very similar in appearance to the Toyota (TM) Corolla. With the F3DM model, BYD has created the first mass produced plug-in hybrid which includes a small 2.4 liter gasoline engine along with an electric motor capable of providing an all-electric range of approximately 100km. The electric motor draws power from a new generation Fe battery.Complete Story » seekingalpha.com |
10 Green Energy Gambles for 2010: Q2 Update
Tom Konrad (AltEnergyStocks) submits: In January, I brought readers a collection of nine bearish puts on non-green companies and ETFs and one tiny energy efficiency company with a chance of taking off big before the end of the year. They consisted of bets against three fossil energy companies, four travel and leisure stocks, a Mexico ETF EWW, a Trucking company (JB Hunt (JBHT)), and a long bet on Power Efficiency Corp [PEFF.OB]. These puts are intended as a complement to my more conservative Ten Green Energy Stocks for 2010, and as a possible hedge for those stocks in a green portfolio. The energy companies are Consol Energy (CNX), Peabody Energy (BTU), and Chesapeake Energy (CHK), all of which have fallen considerably since the start of the year, making the Puts against their stocks the best performers in the portfolio. The fall in these coal and shale gas companies seems to be mostly unrelated to BP's Deepwater Horizon oil spill, since the fall relative to the general market predates the disaster.Complete Story » seekingalpha.com |
Frontline Sees Stormy Seas Ahead
Old Trader submits:John Fredricksen, Frontline's (FRO) largest shareholder, sounded a cautionary note for the oil shipping industry, noting that a large spike in ship deliveries over the next two years will, in all likelihood, drive charter rates down. According to an article that appeared in the weekend issue of the Financial Times, 180 VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers) are scheduled to be delivered over the next two years. This is the equivalent of 33 percent of the existing fleet!Complete Story » seekingalpha.com |
