K-Sea Transportation: Insiders Buying a 15% Yield; Catalysts Abound
Dan Plettner submits:Some time ago, I recognized that the yield provided by Master Limited Partnerships (“MLPs”) may increasingly become tasteful within an environment of limited income alternatives. With an interest of making an MLP portfolio allocation, I started by looking at MLP focused Closed-End Funds: KYN, KYE, TYG, TYY, FMO, MTP, FEN, TYN, SRV (in order by market cap). With the entire Closed-End Fund group trading at premiums, I focused my effort on screening the professional managers’ own MLP selections. Because of the group’s run-up, I was particularly interested to look at recent insider purchases in conjunction with favorable MLP sub-category yields.I certainly did not expect my screen to position me as a buyer of K-Sea Transportation Partners shares. Given my own vague recollection of its a) dividend cut, b) disclosure of debt covenant concerns, and c) choice not to provide analysts with guidance – I was very surprised to see that two K-Sea Directors had shortly thereafter made meaningful personal investments in KSP shares at prices from 11.48 to 11.80.Complete Story » seekingalpha.com |
At Current Levels, Is Toyota Worth Buying?
Asif Suria submits: A friend of mine likes to tell a story about how the first car he bought in the 1990s was a brand new Toyota Corolla that stalled in the middle of the 101 freeway in the San Francisco bay area, leaving him feeling very vulnerable and causing him to swear off all Toyota (TM) cars. He has since then purchased a number of cars made by Ford (F) and appears to be happy with them. I had personally experienced a stalling issue with a new 2000 Toyota Camry that would manifest itself only when I exited a freeway and was stopped at a red light without manually turning the cruise control off. The dealer could not figure out why this was happening and the problem went away after a few months. In contrast I had very good luck with two Fords and still sometimes regret trading in my reliable 35th anniversary Mustang for an IS 350. Both these incidents occurred during a period of time when Toyota enjoyed the unblemished status of being one of the safest car companies and went on to surpass General Motors as the largest car company in the world. With two cars made by Toyota parked in my driveway (the IS 350 is affected by the recall), I have to say that over the years I have been satisfied with the quality and reliability of these cars.Complete Story » seekingalpha.com |
Used Car Index Reaches Record High
Mark J. Perry submits: From today's report from Manheim Consulting: Wholesale used vehicle prices rose again in May. The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index for May was a record 121.0, which represented a 10.9% increase from a year ago (see chart above). May's strength was driven, in large part, by vehicles in the lower and middle price tiers, but prices for late-model vehicles also remained strong as they were helped by low levels of new vehicle inventory.Complete Story » seekingalpha.com |
