But now the industry is beginning to show signs of life again. “After a difficult year battling the recession, the airline industry appears to be headed toward a recovery as fuller planes, fewer discounted fares, lower fuel prices and revenue from a variety of formerly free services start to pay off,” writes Susan Carey. Low-cost carriers focusing on domestic flights are already seeing undeniable signs of improvement. The market and the economy has been through some terrible times over the past few years. This in turn has had a dramatic effect on share prices. Some share prices have bounced back, others have not. I have been looking at those companies with share prices that remain depressed and have sorted them into two groups: Companies with a business that has fundamentally changed with the events of the past two years. For the purposes of this exercise, I am assuming this could be the reason why the share prices are depressed and may not return to their pre-recession levels.
