Shipping Stocks: Fairly High Yields and Smooth Sailing

There are two types of shippers, the liquid shippers which transport crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas, and the dry bulk shippers, which transport iron ore, coal, grain, minerals, fertilizers, and other non-liquid items. The shipping stocks generate some fairly high yields. Eighteen yield over 3.5%. For example, Teekay LNG Partners (TGP) is a liquid shipper that yields 9.2%. Horizon Lines, Inc. Wildebeest submits: Intermodal rail freight began to increase over the last few weeks which has led to some upbeat comments and optimism about the recovery. While the data is heading in the right direction I think the punditry is getting a bit ahead of itself on this subject.The Association of American Railroads (AAR) publishes a weekly news release that includes data about rail freight. The data is divided into two categories: intermodal and carloads. Intermodal includes the containers that you see in shipping ports.
