Toyota's Reputation Takes a Hit - And So Will the Stock
Markos Kaminis (Wall St. Greek) submits: Toyota Motors (TM) could shed another 7% to 15% if you believe this hit to its reputation could bring it down to earth, or to a forward P/E ratio comparable to peers Honda Motors (NYSE: HMC) and Ford (NYSE: F). Toyota Motors said late Wednesday that it was expanding its vehicle recall to include another 1.1 million cars and trucks. This is in addition to the 2.3 million vehicles Toyota recalled last week. The reason for recall is the same across models and years of production, a faulty accelerator pedal that is at risk of sticking. Toyota is now recalling vehicles in the US, Canada and Europe. AAR Profit Down by Half
Zacks.com submits: AAR Corp. (AIR) reported discouraging results for the third quarter of fiscal 2010. During the quarter, sales were $309.6 million, down from $338.8 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2009. Net income was $9.9 million or 26 cents, down to almost half of $17.2 million or 43 cents in the year-ago quarter. Tom Konrad (AltEnergyStocks) submits: Americans are notoriously attached to their cars, but high oil prices in 2007 and 2008 led many to get on a bus or train. According to a 2009 paper Transit Ridership Models: Present Status and Future Needs [pdf] by Grace Galluci and John D Allen, Ph.D. from Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority, current published transit ridership models do not yet incorporate changes in gasoline prices. The authors consider this a serious omission, since, in addition to the obvious intuitive link between gas prices and ridership, they found a strong correlation between gas prices and transit ridership using CRTA ridership data and local gasoline prices.
