Car Sales Are Looking Strong

Nothing moves in a straight line, but it seems to me that the upward trend here is clear (especially if you abstract from the temporary gyrations caused by cash-for-clunkers program last August). Honda: Sales Spike, Profits Surge

(HMC) has posted a profit of ¥72.1 billion ($776 million) for the fourth quarter of its fiscal year ended March 31, 2010, an impressive increase of 140% from the same period in 2009. This was equivalent to earnings per share of ¥39.78 (43 cents), an increase of ¥138.95 ($1.50) from a loss of ¥99.17 ($1.07) for the corresponding period last year.Consolidated net sales and other operating revenue in the quarter rose 27.8% to ¥2.3 trillion ($24.5 billion). This was attributable to favorable currency translation effects and increased sales in the automobile business. JetBlue Beats on Record Revenue
Zacks.com submits: JetBlue Airways Corporation (JBLU), one of the discounted airlines, reported its third quarter adjusted earnings of 18 cents per share surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by a penny as well as the year-ago quarter’s earnings of 5 cents. The better-than-expected earnings were driven by higher fares, revenue maximization, cost control and network optimization. Net income quadrupled in the reported quarter to $59 million from $15 million in the year-ago quarter. Total revenue climbed 20.5% year over year to a record $1 billion, primarily due to an increase in airline traffic, measured in revenue passenger miles (RPM). In the reported quarter, RPM increased 9.6% year over year on an 8.5% increase in capacity.
